Geography/Culture: Libya.
Description: Half beautiful woman, half-speckled serpent, Goddess of death, the underworld (perhaps winter) and prophesy; [Ruler of the year].
To Whom Sacred: snake, especially viper; snake venom; male human sacrifice.
Male Associates: sons, Ceberus, the three-headed hound of hell; the Chimaera, a fire-breathing goat with lion's head and serpent's body); Orthrus, (two-headed hound of Geryon) who fathered on Her the Nemean lion. All of these, except Ceberus, were calendar emblems, suggesting Her rulership of the year. Consort, Typhon, Stupefying-Smoke, Hot-Wind, or Hurricane, destructive storm god.
