Geography/Culture: Greek.

Description: Goddess of strife, lies, debate, wrangling, disputation, competion and discord; Provoker of quarrels, battle, murder; Instigator of rivalry and contention in work and games; She Who is always stirring up occasions for war by the spread of rumour and the incalcation of jealousy. See also the Goddess Anthology under Eris.

To Whom are sacred: blackthorn (a symbol of strife); `apple of discord' (one of the golden apples from the garden of the Hesperides). She initiated the events that led up to the Trojan War by tossing this apple marked "for the fairest" among the deities.

Male associates: son, Ares, `' by Zeus (though some say he is Her brother).
